Here’s my whole problem with the Rose/River argument. People say that River’s whole life revolved around the Doctor. Fine, I get why you’re saying that, but don’t give me that cock-and-bull that Rose’s life didn’t once she met him.The first four series were the fucking Rose Tyler Show, even more so than that the last two being The River Song Show. Rose fell in love with the Doctor and went with him like a big-eyed puppy, and then was made to live in a parallel universe without him and during those years worked on a way to get back to him…even though she knew that would fuck shit up (sound familiar?). The Daleks came, so shit was already going down, but that doesn’t change that she was trying to get back to be with him cause she was stuck in a world she didn’t choose. Actually, of all the companions we’ve seen since 2005, the only one to be TRULY independent of the Doctor and really choose anything after her traveling with him was Martha, for the record. (Donna…don’t even get me started on Donna’s story!)
Oh, no, wait, only Moffat wrote female characters that didn’t make their own choices and try to do everything in life to be with the Doctor cause he’s the most misogynistic person ever, blahblahblah. At the end of the day RTD and Moff are both well-to-do white dudes writing a show about a time-traveling dude of all dudes (so far, I’m still waiting for the Doctor to regenerate into the body of a woman), so some sexism is going to be there, it is. Rose devoted a lot to be with the Doctor, just as River has done, but everyone overlooks that cause RTD wrote Rose and Moffat wrote River. And that’s what pisses me off. Want to find the sexist problems in the show? Fine. Just be even with them.

And to what extent can we argue that Rose didn’t give up everything for the Doctor and live her life around him, though?...
